Clean Energy Week 2024 Concludes with a Celebration for Cambodia’s Sustainable Future

Clean Energy Week (CEW) 2024, Cambodia’s largest and most impactful event dedicated to clean energy, concluded with a celebratory Toast to Clean Energy and the presentation of the highly anticipated Clean Energy Awards

CEW has become an essential platform for uniting Cambodia’s clean energy advocates and partners, fostering dialogue, and advancing Cambodia’s leadership in sustainable energy.

Now in its seventh year, CEW 2024 highlighted Cambodia’s progress in renewable energy development, showcasing transformative efforts that benefit the nation and position Cambodia as an emerging leader in Southeast Asia’s energy transition.

The week’s program brought together a diverse range of participants—including policymakers, industry leaders, community representatives, students, and international partners—to engage in discussions on key aspects of the clean energy transition, including financing, energy storage, grid modernization, and best practices in energy efficiency.

Underscoring the importance of energy transition to the country’s social and economic development, Mr. Natharoun Ngo Son, EnergyLab Country Director said “Clean Energy Week has shared the wide range of ways Cambodia can benefit from the shift to clean energy. Joint efforts and decisive actions are vital for opening up new jobs, increasing financial investments, and improving the well-being of all Cambodian citizens. We look forward to continuing to work with the Clean Energy Week partners to realise this strong ambition.”

Reflecting on the week’s successes, Australia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Derek YIP stated, “As a founding partner of Clean Energy Week, Australia is proud to be supporting Cambodia’s energy sector. CEW is an important platform to celebrate Cambodia’s impressive progress and discuss the opportunities and challenges of the clean energy transition.”

A highlight of CEW 2024 was the Clean Energy Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions from individuals, organisations, and initiatives that are driving Cambodia’s clean energy progress. The awards celebrated pioneering efforts across multiple categories, from innovations in renewable technology (won by Heineken Cambodia for their biomass plant) to champions in sustainable community practices (won by Mr. Bunly Ty), and impactful programs (won by the Cambodia Clean Energy Competition).

Underscoring the success of CEW24, UNDP Resident Representative Ms Alissar Chaker noted “This week has been remarkable. It has brought policy makers, development partners, private sector representatives, and industry experts together to discuss and share best practices and insights for accelerating Cambodia’s energy transition. Promoting clean energy is a collective responsibility and UNDP reconfirms its commitment to work with its wide network of partners to support integrated policy, technology transfer and financial shifts that will build a net-zero, people-centered society and shape the country’s sustainable economic development.”

The week’s close was marked by a Toast to Clean Energy, a celebratory moment to acknowledge the collective efforts and partnerships advancing Cambodia’s clean energy agenda. This closing celebration reflected the strong commitments from the Royal Government of Cambodia whose initiatives — such as the recently released national EV Charging Roadmap — are positioning Cambodia on a sustainable, resilient path.

Clean Energy Week has demonstrated the wide range of ways Cambodia can benefit from the shift to clean energy. By working together, clean energy will create jobs, drive investment and improve livelihoods. We look forward to continuing to work with the Clean Energy Week partners to realise this incredible potential.

Hosted since 2018, with Australia  and the UNDP as founding partners, Clean Energy Week 2024’s conclusion leaves an impactful legacy, inspiring further action and collaboration across sectors as Cambodia continues on its clean energy journey.
