Phnom Penh Welcomes MALEVICH, The City’s First Vodka Bar

Review for Phnom Penh’s first vodka bar and newest Russian eatery, MALEVICH

Have you visited the newest hottest eatery in Phnom Penh? MALEVICH is Phnom Penh’s newest culinary gem near Wat Botum, where the creative genius of friends Petr and Alex from Saint Petersburg shines in this retro setting. Inspired by avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich, MALEVICH Restaurant & Vodka Bar is a playground of innovation and flavor, where contemporary Russian cuisine and vodka blend well with the city’s vibrant spirit.

Chef Petr Gollavski, a master of both culinary arts and creativity, infuses each dish with a personal touch, melding traditional Russian fare with a modern twist. From classics like Potato Rosti and Pozharsky Cutlet to inventive delights, the menu promises a culinary journey that intrigues every palate in Phnom Penh’s bustling nightlife scene.

This is the first vodka bar in Phnom Penh, offering an extensive drink menu featuring premium vodkas, homemade infusions, classic cocktails, and fine wines, ensuring the perfect pairing for your meal.

Our team, When in Phnom Penh, had the pleasure of experiencing MALEVICH firsthand, and it was truly a blast! From unique cocktails crafted for the occasion to delicate mocktails for our non-drinking companions, there was something for everyone. We even indulged in shots of their handmade vodkas, toasting to the night with cheers of za zdorovie.

The appetizers were equally inventive, featuring delights such as corn ribs, burrata with mango, beetroot-cured salmon, and a delightful charcuterie board with homemade Russian pickles. Each dish was a delight, prompting us to even order an extra serving of pickled mackerel.

For mains, we sampled the potato salad, lamb dumplings, and chicken lollipops, but we were starting to reach our limit. However, we couldn’t resist over hearing some of the secret menu items whispered to us by regulars—something to try on our next visit!

The highlight of the evening was dessert, with everyone at our table falling for the Baba au Rhum, a rum-soaked cake that satisfied every sweet tooth. The “Golden Brick,” a dense chocolate cake dusted in gold, and the light and sweet honey cake were equally delightful. We concluded our meal with another shot of homemade vodka, bidding farewell to MALEVICH with smiles on our faces.

Open daily from 12PM to 12 midnight every day, reservations are highly recommended to secure your spot at this culinary haven. However, walk-ins are warmly welcomed with a complimentary shot of vodka at the bar.

With live music every Thursday and DJ sets on weekends, as well as special events like bar takeovers and art exhibitions, MALEVICH promises pleasant experience beyond dining.

MALEVICH isn’t just about fine dining; it’s about delivering delicious, visually stunning meals for all to enjoy. Whether for a quick business lunch or a leisurely dinner, MALEVICH offers flavorful dishes and a serene atmosphere overlooking Wat Botum Park.

As the night unfolds, indulge in delectable bar bites in a lively, social ambiance, accompanied by live music or DJ beats. Expertly crafted homemade infused vodkas and cocktail pairings ensure each sip complements your meal flawlessly.

At MALEVICH, the vodka bar experience is inclusive and welcoming, drawing inspiration from suprematism to celebrate the purity and simplicity of vodka. Just as suprematism distilled art to its essential forms, MALEVICH channels the essence of this iconic spirit, offering a multisensory journey through art, culture, and taste.
